Caring for Mount Agung Refugees 

KARANGASEM – Mount Agung remains on high alert level. The Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation Center (PVMBG) of Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources recorded its volcanic activity increased significantly. On Sunday (24/9/17), a deep volcanic earthquake hit 332 times,  211 times of shallow volcanic earthquake and 43 times  Tectonic earthquakes from 00.00 a.m. to 12.00 a.m. 

 

The earthquake vibration was felt by many people living in refugee cottages or camps area in Tista and Datah village, District of Karangasem, , which is located about  12 km from Mount Agung Volcanic center. 

 

As of 24 September, nearly 35,000 people have been evacuated from their homes near active Mt Agung Volcano in Bali and dispersed across 238 locations in seven districts in Bali.

 

I, Nengah Swikrama, founder of Damara Bali Foundation reported from refugee camps area, that smaller aftershocks also hit several times. People were advised to stay calm by tremors stemming from a major earthquake. 

 

Damara distributed aid to disaster victims ensure that refugees in refugee camps have access at all times to safe and nutritious food in order to ease the burden of people.
