Q3 25 Farmers Have Been Trained in Compost Making Made of Animal Manure & Agricultural Waste
The empowerment of farmers in the form of technology transfer regarding composting is an effort to utilize the potential of the surrounding environment of residual organic waste. This activity was held in Kedis Village, Busungbiu District, Buleleng Regency in June 2018
The method used in this activity is the knowledge transfer of material used and demonstrations. Providing information about various organic waste materials surrounding the agricultural environment which can be used as a source of raw material for making compost.
The demonstration was carried out by practicing compost fertilizer using forage / foliage raw materials, banana humps, and cow dung, then added with super decomposers, rice husks, granulated sugar, and water.
The transfer of compost fertilizer production technology has a great benefit; it has increased the knowledge of poor farmers about the benefits of organic waste as a raw material for making compost.
The benefits of compost fertilizer for plantations are:
- Increase soil fertility
- Improve soil structure and characteristics
- Increasing groundwater absorbency capacity
- Increase the activity of soil microbes
- Improve the quality of crops (taste, nutritional value, and number of crops)
- Provides hormones and vitamins for plants
- Suppress the growth / attack of plant diseases
- Increase nutrient retention / availability in the soil
There are fundamental differences in land treated with compost than those without compost (inorganic fertilizer). Soil using inorganic fertilizer continuously will experience a decrease in the quality of nutrients and will increase the hardness of the soil structure.
